Carbide Roll Ring History

Carbide roller ring was born with the development of metal processing industry after the advent of powder metallurgy technology in 1909. Since the introduction of cemented carbide wire drawing dies in Germany in 1918, the research on cemented carbide has been stimulated in various countries, and rolls for various purposes have also appeared one after another. However, the large-scale application of cemented carbide rolls was after 1960. In 1964, Morgen's first high-speed untwisted wire rod rolling mill was born, and the alloy ring increased the finishing rolling speed of wire rod by 4 times at that time. Because the finishing mill works under high speed and high stress, the wear resistance of cast iron rolls and tool steel rolls is poor, the service life of the rolling groove is short, and the repairing and unloading of the rolls are very frequent, which affects the efficiency of the rolling mill and is not suitable for finishing rolling production. requirements, so it was replaced by a combined cemented carbide roll. There are more than 200 sets of Morgan rolling mills in the world, and the annual consumption of cemented carbide rolls is hundreds of tons.
